uara Baru squatters in North Jakarta reported the city administration to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) for evicting them from their homes under the threat of armed personnel.

"Armed police and military personnel have been guarding our village for over a month now. This has been intimidating," Budiyanto, a resident, said when filing the report.

He added that heavy equipment had been readied in the neighborhood on the banks of the Pluit Dam, which was included in the administration's flood mitigation plan.

The Jakarta branch of the Association of Indonesian Legal Aid (PBHI), which is advocating the locals in the matter, also reported Deputy Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama for calling the locals "communists" as they refused eviction and demanded new land.
