he Jakarta City Administration is to ask for bids for the procurementof 420 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses for Transjakarta.
"We are preparing for an auction in May," Jakarta Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
The auction will remain open for 45 days with a fund of Rp 1 trillion (US$103 million) earmarked in the local budget.
Technical specifications of the buses have been decided on by the Agency for the Application and Assessment of Technology (BPPT). Both regular and articulated buses are needed.
"That is to avoid technical problems that might occur in the procurement," Udar said.
Transjakarta needs buses with strong specifications because they are expected to operate non-stop all day long. (hrl)
