hree male Indonesian migrant workers were murdered on their way home from Johor Baru, Malaysia, while a woman colleague is receiving medical treatment at Mayjend HA Thalib Hospital, Sungaipenuh, Jambi, after allegedly being raped.

The incident happened on Thursday when four migrant workers hailing from Sungai Abu village in Air Hangat Timur district, Kerinci regency, Jambi province, planned to return home from Johor Baru, Malaysia, to Kuala Tungkal in West Tanjungjabung regency via Tanjung Balai Karimun.

The male workers, identified only as MD, 35, NZ, 35, and SP, 20, and the 35-year-old woman planned to sail to Kuala Tungkal by 'pompong' boat.

A local broker locally known as '€œtekong'€, promised to get them home safely and arranged for them to set sail from Johor Baru via an illegal route.

They were set to depart for Kuala Tungkal on Thursday when an unidentified man who was to accompany them allegedly killed the three male migrant workers.

The dead body of one victim was left on the beach in Johor Baru while the two other victims were dragged out to sea. Meanwhile, the man allegedly raped the woman and took her to Tanjung Balai Karimun, where he locked her up in a house for one day.

A health worker at Mayjend HA Thalib Hospital'€™s emergency unit, Amir, said the woman had been taken to the hospital by relatives on Saturday.

'€œAfter a medical examination, we found that she might have been raped,'€ said Amir.

The woman'€™s relatives, accompanied by the head of Sungai Abu village, reported the case to the Kerinci Police.

Kerinci Police chief Adj.Sr.Comr.Ismail said his personnel would coordinate with related institutions to investigate the case.(ebf)
