Limboto Police arrested four teachers from state senior high school SMA 1 in Biluhu, Gorontalo regency, for allegedly leaking national exam materials to students in April.
'We arrested them on the basis of information we received from an informant,' Limboto Police's head of detectives, Adj.Comr.Heri Rusyawan, said on Monday.
One of suspects, identified only by the initials IKP is the school principal while another suspect, L, is a teacher of social sciences (IPS) in the school. Another suspect, AM, is a math teacher, while HD is a non-permanent member of the teaching staff in the school.
Rusyawan alleged the suspects committed their crimes by taking pictures of the question sheets and copying them onto a flash disk and a laptop. It was IKP who initiated the crime, he added.
'The exam materials were kept in the deputy headmaster's room, which was guarded by a police officer. Only the police officer and the school principal himself held the key to the storage room,' said Rusyawan.
The perpetrators entered the room several times during the period of April 17 to 19 when the police officer and teachers who were on duty to guard the room had dinner elsewhere in the school.
They succeeded in leaking the exam materials for four subjects: English, Indonesian, IPS and math.
Rusyawan said that if proven guilty, the suspects could face a sentence of between nine months to five years in prison for violating Article 363 (2) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on theft and Article 322 KUHP on leaking state secrets. (asw/ebf)
