he government is set to launch Bali Bersih (Clean Bali) Project next month to make the island clean, hygienic and look more beautiful as it is to host the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit at the end of this year.
Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry destination development director general Firmansyah Rahim said the pilot project was going to involve every related party from the community, local government and private sectors.
“We have three main agendas that will make everyone work together to make Bali a cleaner and more pleasant place as a tourist destination. We are going to have our first coordinating meeting with every stakeholder in early June,” Firmansyah said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the first agenda item would be to train local Balinese people on how to clean toilets and other public spaces and promote the importance of sanitation.
Next will be a focus on how the government can help society build new sanitation and clean water facilities in Bali.
“We are working with the Public Works Ministry to make this happen because this is that ministry’s area. We are here to give them recommendations on which tourist spots need more facilities,” he said.
The final focus will be on how to engage the private sector to help clean up Bali ahead of the APEC Summit.
