G

adjah Mada University’s Center for Pancasila Studies (PSP) organized a series of events to celebrate May 2013 as Pancasila Month.

“The sense of unity in diversity is fading and education only results in intellectuals without insight that give priority to material and personal interests,” PSP counselor Soetaryo said on Tuesday.

An example of the negative impact of this phenomenon, according to him, was the lack of specialist doctors who were willing to work in remote areas. He also said that in education some subjects such as history, geography and archeology were seen as unimportant.

The center will also hold a workshop for teachers to discuss the 2013 school curriculum.

Other events to be held during Pancasila Month include a seminar on political ethics and Pancasila democracy, the 5th Pancasila congress and Pancasila preaching.
