political analyst said that the charisma of Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto, the chief patron of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party could attract more voters to the party.
Analyst Boni Hargens said that in the 2014 legislative election Gerindra could be more popular than the ruling Democratic Party, which is currently wracked by graft scandals.
“The party’s performance is improving and it has positioned itself as an opposition party with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P),” Boni said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
A survey from the Indonesian Voters Institute (LPI) pollster predicted that Gerindra would get more than five percent of the votes in the 2014 legislative election, an increase from 4.4 percent in the 2009 election.
“This would make Gerindra a middleweight political party and they could in fact sit alongside the PDI-P and the Golkar party,” he said.
The LPI predicted that in the 2014 election, the Democratic Party will get around 4 percent of the vote.
