Conservationists in Medan, North Sumatra, have urged the government to take swift action to stop the destruction of orangutan habitats, as their population in North Sumatra and Aceh is on the verge of extinction.
ProFauna Indonesia chairman Rosek Nursahid said orangutan habitats had been decimated as a result of the ongoing deforestation in both provinces.
Your comments:
'Greed is good', a quote from the movie Wall Street, applies to Aceh where logging and oil palm firms are in cahoots with the local government.
While I hope to be proven wrong, I do not believe that the majority of Indonesians really care about the jungle or wildlife, and we are seeing the last of orangutans, tigers and others due to corruption and the blinkered vision of the populace.
