Two commuter trains serving New York-New Haven collided in Fairfield, Connecticut, at around 6:10 p.m. local time on Friday.
The incident began when a commuter train departing from New York to New Haven slipped on its rail track and collided with another commuter train running in opposite direction.
Seventy passengers sustained injuries during the incident; seven remain in a critical condition at St.Vincent's Medical Center and Bridgeport Hospital.
According to the results of a preliminary investigation conducted by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) the incident appears to have been caused by cracks within the connection of the rail tracks.
