P

opular Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo defended himself from a verbal attack by senior Democratic Party politician Ruhut Sitompul, who said that Jokowi did not deserve to be president due to his humble background.

Ruhut said on Sunday that Jokowi's background as a furniture businessman and mayor of a small town would barely make him a qualified presidential candidate.

"But all surveys put me at the top ... also, it is the public who'll make the ultimate decision as to whether or not I deserve to be a presidential candidate," Jokowi said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Jokowi, however, said that he did not take Ruhut's statement too seriously. "It doesn't concern me," he said.
