AKARTA: The Democratic Party said on Monday that it would hold a convention to select its presidential candidates next month.
'We haven't set the date but it will definitely be in June,' the chairperson of the party's political faction at the House of Representatives, Nurhayati Assegaf, said.
Nurhayati said the party's central board was working to create rules for the convention.
'We have to create rules so that only competent persons apply and win the votes of the people. We want this convention to elect a candidate that can lead the country,' Nurhayati said.
The party's chairman, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, announced in April that his party would select its presidential candidate and running mate for the 2014 election through a primary.
