P

rivate airline Sriwijaya Air clarified thejakartapost.com's report that said an emergency door on its aircraft broke off at Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport in Tanjungpinang, Riau Island, during boarding on Tuesday.

Due to a technical glitch, the aircraft, which was scheduled to depart for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, at 7 a.m. local time, was forced to delay take off until 10:50 a.m.

Sriwijaya Air's spokesperson Agus Soedjono explained on Wednesday the incident was actually related to the aircraft's escape slide.

At the end of the boarding process, Agus said, ground handling officers withdrew the passenger stair at the back door, but inadvertently dragged the gird bar off the escape slide.

Due to the incident, all the passengers were asked by the flight attendants to get off and wait at the airport waiting room until the escape slide was repaired.

The aircraft took off after the repair work was done. (hhr)
