onsumer goods giant PT Unilever Indonesia (UNVR) says the company spent approximately Rp 300 billion (US$30.6 million), or 30 percent of its Rp 1 trillion capital expenditure (capex), in the first quarter.
Company spokesman Sancoyo Antarikso said on Tuesday that capital expenses in the first three months included the purchase of machines for the company's factories.
'We will use the new machines on packaging lines,' he said,
adding that investment in the latest machinery enabled the company to not only increase production capacity but to also improve manufacturing efficiency.
He added that the design of the new machinery was adjusted to the company's product innovations introduced to the market 'to maintain product quality'.
Unilever's factories manufacture skin care products and ice cream, among other products. As much as 73 percent of Uniliver's products fall under the home and personal care category and the remainder under the food and ice cream category.
