ome 138 under-18 golfers from 19 countries will take part in the Enjoy Jakarta world junior golf championship set to take place June 4-June 7 at Pantai Indah Kapuk Course, North Jakarta.

It will be the event's seventh edition and will coincide with Jakarta's 486th anniversary hosted by the Jakarta administration in cooperation with Damai Indah Golf and the Indonesia Golf Association (PGI).

Indonesia will deploy 50 golfers spearheaded by defending champion Joshua Andrew Wirawan.

The event will be split into four age groups, boys and girls ' Group A (15 to 17-years-old), Group B (13-14), Group C (11-12) and Group D (10 and under).

'Scores from this tournament have been included in R&A sanctioned World Amateur Golf Ranking, which manages more than 130 amateur golf organizations in 120 countries throughout the globe,' IGKG Suena, deputy chairman of the event's steering committee, told a press conference here on Tuesday.

As a junior golf championship, there is no prize money in this tournament. Participants will instead compete to improve their rankings, according to Suena.

He said the event not only encourages young talents to improve in national and international golf tournaments but also promotes Jakarta to international communities.

According to Enjoy Jakarta world junior golf championship deputy chairman S. Christine Wiradinata, the event will be covered by TV stations both local and international, including Sky Sport, Sky New Zealand, Euro Sport Asia, among others.

Aside from the golf tournament, the organizing committee will also hold side events to promote Jakarta and its culture including by presenting traditional Betawi dance, meetings with inspirational figures including Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo and a city tour.

Youth and Sports Agency head H Ratiyono hoped that such an event could help regenerate Indonesian golfers.

The Jakarta administration last month held the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship at Emeralda Golf Club in Cimanggis, West Java, with South Korean Choi Ho-sung claiming victory.
