overnor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has objected to director Azhar Kinoi Lubis making a movie about him without his consent.
The former Surakarta mayor said that he had never met the director.
“I don’t know [the director], I haven’t met him. I don’t want it made,” he said at City Hall on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Jokowi said that distribution of the movie could disadvantage him, and he therefore intended to meet with the producer.
Reports say that the movie will depict Jokowi’s life from childhood to graduation from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. The movie is slated to premier on June 20, a day before Jokowi’s birthday.
K2K Production shot the scenes in Jokowi’s hometown in Surakarta and Yogyakarta. The production company also produced Mr. Bean Kesurupan Depe (Mr. Bean is Possessed by Depe) last year, which was controversial as it cast a look-alike Rowan Atkinson to play Mr. Bean but reportedly led people to believe it was the real deal.
Actor Teuku Rifku Wikana will star as Jokowi, while film-television actress Prisia Nasution will play his wife, Iriana.
Other stars such as Ayu Diah Pasha and Ratna Riantiarno play supporting roles in the movie.
