resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday installed Lt. Gen. Moeldoko as the new Army chief of staff, replacing Gen. Pramono Wibowo, who retired.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted at the State Palace and attended by several Cabinet ministers.
Moeldoko was Pramono's deputy and previously served as the deputy governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) from August 2011. He was promoted to the Army's deputy chief of staff on Jan. 23 this year. Between October 2010 and August 2011, Moeldoko served as the commander of Siliwangi Regional Command.
Moeldoko said his goal was to maintain existing programs devised by his predecessor.
