awyer Farhat Abbas hascriticized the Jakarta police's decision to name him as suspect over libelcharges against deputy governor Basuki Tjahja Purnama. Farhat said that the suspect status could damage hisreputation and career.

'Being summoned as suspect gives a bad impression of the bearer, as if he or she is a criminal,' he said. Kompas.com reported on Friday.

Besides, he went on, the case was no longer relevant as he had apologized to Basuki personally.

The libel case originated from a report made by Anton Medan, chairman of the Central Board of the Association of  Muslims of Chinese Descent regarding Farhat's twitter account that brought up Basuki's ethnicity.

Anton considered Farhat's statement an insult.(fan/dic)
