Jakarta administration has congratulated students who passed the national examination (UN), satisfied with the increased pass rate.
City education agency head Taufik Yudi Mulyanto said on Friday the students who achieved pass rates of 99.85 percent for senior high school and 99.99 percent for vocational high school.
"I am really proud of students' outstanding efforts. This is incredible, this year's graduation rate is higher than last year," he told The Jakarta Post at SMA 38 in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
According to the agency, only 73 of 61,000 high school students failed.
"This year, only 2 students of 64,000 vocational high school students taking the test failed" Taufik said.
To dissuade the students from the traditional post-exam vandalism and violence some schools suggested the students to wear traditional attires for the day. Governor Joko Widodo told schools to stop students taking to the streets to celebrate their success, often ending up in brawls with students from other schools.
Seventy five schools were in the pilot program of the initiative. (hrl)
