As part of the cultural festival Printemps Français 2013, a photography exhibition entitled 'Elles Vident Leur Sac' (They Empty Their Bags) will be held at Marsio Fine Art Gallery in Menteng, Central Jakarta, from May 26 through June 9. In Elles Vident Leur Sac, photographer Pierre Klein reveals a myth of women's bags, the intimate daily accessories. He requested 50 random women, who did not know his plan, to empty their bag and took a photo of it. The photos are like a snapshot of their habits and their moods. This exhibition also presents a 52 minute film that documents the experiment and written testimonials from the participating women. Visit institutfrancais-indonesia.com for more information
Theater
Canadian director, choreographer, creator and performer Erika Batdorf will collaborate with Arwinda, a two piece band with accordion and didgeridoo from Germany, in a show titled 'The Smell of the Soul' at Salihara cultural center in South Jakarta on the evening of June 7 and 8. The show is an interactive cabaret of death and chaos infused with comedy. In the cabaret, three carrion bugs try to find out if the audience has a soul, if the human spirit is dead or if humans have an afterlife. American alternative metal band Deftones is set to perform at The Venue in Bandung, West Java on May 30. This concert is part of Deftones' tour in support of their critically acclaimed seventh studio album Koi No Yokan. From their 1994 debut Adrenaline to their platinum-certified, Billboard chart-topping, Grammy-winning breakthrough album White Pony, Deftones have continually crossed over genres, defied categorization and delivered compelling live performances around the world.
