hairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla said the council was devising a regulation on loudspeakers in mosques. “We are now discussing the technicalities,” the former vice president said.
Kalla said the regulation would deal with the tarhim (prayers and praises for the prophet) that was usually recited prior to the dawn prayer.
“We will regulate the duration of the tarhim. It should not be too long,” he said.
Both Muslims and non-Muslims, have complained about excessive use of loudspeakers in mosques, especially in the early morning.
