Journalists might face more violence ahead of election, says AJI

he Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) is predicting that violenceagainst journalists will likely increase this year, as political competitiongets tighter ahead of the General Elections next year.

'€œWe have seen increasing violence toward journalists from January to May this year,'€ AJI chairman
Eko Maryadi said recently, as quoted by Antara news portal.

Eko said that according to AJI reports, the 14 cases during the January-May period were carried out by various people, from law enforcers to students. Last year, AJI recorded 56 cases of violence toward on-duty journalists in 24 provinces. (fan/dic)
