After a month of angry debate, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono directly addressed the issue of the World Statesman Award, set to be bestowed upon him later this week.
SBY implored Indonesians to not perceive the award negatively, claiming it was actually for the nation, not just an individual.

SBY and his administration failed to protect the Ahmadiyah and the Christians properly.
While SBY is in a good position to do so, he did not even bother to attempt to ease the pain of those victims by offering his sympathy and condolences to the victims, let alone apologize for his failure to protect and defend his citizens.
In fact he did not even say a word against the attackers and proceeded to fly to the US to receive this award. I believe the Appeal of Conscience Foundation (ACF) are aware of these facts but they go ahead with their decision.
Are the ACF trying to ridicule and embarrass SBY with this award?
