t is the time of year when summer temperatures kick into full gear. The Tour's final stop in Texas for 2013 is the Crowne Plaza Invitational held at the classic Colonial Country Club (par 70) in Fort Worth.

American legend and Fort Worth native the late Ben Hogan enshrined himself at Colonial with his five wins.

'I don't even pull out my yardage book except to fill out the scorecard. When I see the pins I can tell you, I know everything about the greens,' that's what Colonial member and American Ryan Palmer said after shooting a notable eight under par 62 to take the lead after round one.

American John Rollins was only a stroke back at seven under par. Four others were bunched up at six under par including Canadian Graham Delaet and American Morgan Hoffman. South African Tim Clark and American Boo Weekley were both five strokes back at three under par.

American Matt Kuchar ranked 13th in the world shot a marvelous five-under 65 to follow his 1st round 65 to take the lead at 10 under par after two rounds.

Earlier in the year he'd won the snow interrupted and pressure packed WGC Match Play event in Tucson, Arizona. Kuchar was one shot ahead of Delaet (nine under) and two strokes in front of Americans Jordan Spieth and Josh Teater both eight under.

Clark had fallen further back at four under par while Weekley posted a three-under 69 to remain four strokes off the pace at six-under par. Kuchar was cautious about his lead and said: 'This course can give you trouble, but if you are hitting it good you can make some birdies out here. I was hitting it good and able to fire at some pins today.'

It was more Kuchar after round three when he held steady to shoot a one under par 69 to post 11 under par after three rounds and take a one stroke lead over four pursuers. These included DeLaet who shot another one-under par 69 to move to 10-under par.

Alongside him at 10 under was Weekley who put together a solid four-under par 66. Clark broke through with a five under par 65 and was only two strokes off the lead. Clark spoke about his play: 'Well, I played awful yesterday. Yesterday the way I played I shouldn't have even made the cut. Today I felt like a different guy. I really
felt in control. I hit a lot of good shots. I hope the [same] guy today shows up tomorrow.'

Kuchar did not have his best stuff in the final round and could only muster an even par 35 on the front nine. In the meantime, Clark was two under par after 10 holes and 12 under for the event.

Weekley in the meantime was himself on fire. He strung together three straight birdies on holes 8, 9 and 10 to go to 13 under for the lead. Kuchar just could not get anything going. After a bogey on 14, Clark could not recover from three strokes off Weekley's lead.

Weekley was on a roll and driving the ball perfectly. He was ranked 111th in the world going into the Crowne Plaza Invitational with two PGA Tour victories to his credit from years gone by.

Boo could have easily extended his lead by two more strokes in the closing five holes missing two birdie putts both from a meter. He missed the cut last week but has had three top ten finishes in 2013.

On Sunday, Boo was flawless and went flag hunting. Golf announcer Nick Faldo commented: 'Boo has some serious self-belief in his ball-striking today,' after Weekley hit a great tee shot on the final hole. It almost seemed he was placing the ball at will.

Weekly closed the 18th hole with a par to finish at 14 under par, beating 2nd place finisher Matt Kuchar by one stroke.

Weekley had not tasted victory for over five years when stifled by a slew of injuries.

The wait was finally over for Boo. He was presented the champion's plaid jacket and gigantic trophy on the 18th green. When asked if he was due for a win Boo simply said: 'Yes sir, It was a matter a time.'
