Police still in the dark over Bekasi killing

T

he police are still in the dark over the killing of gang leader John Kei'€™s younger brother ,Tito Refra Kei, and 70-year-old kiosk owner Ratim, which took place in Bekasi, West Java, late on Friday.

Bekasi Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Priyo Widiyanto said here on Saturday that the police questioned four witnesses after they analyzed a bullet and a bullet sleeve discovered at the scene.

'€œThe four witnesses cannot identify the shooter because the gunman wore a jacket and helmet, and fled the scene after opening fire on the two victims,'€ he said.

The bodies of the two victims were released to their relatives after autopsies were conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta on Saturday.

Tito and Ratim died instantly when the gunman opened fire on them with an FN handgun near Ratim'€™s kiosk in Kalibaru Subdistrict, Bekasi.

The police also questioned three of Tito'€™s friends and Ratim'€™s daughter, Popon, as they were all near the scene of the crime.

Tito alias Fransiskus Refa, a lawyer, defended his brother John during a trial for his involvement in the murder of PT Sanex Steel Indonesia boss Tan Hari Tantono in 2012.

Tito and John were once grilled by the police in connection with the cutting of two youths'€™ fingers in Surabaya, East Java, in August, 2008.

Tito was also questioned by the police in connection with his alleged involvement in the bloody clash between the Ambon and Flores gangs on Jl. Ampera Street in South Jakarta in 2010.
