he overall situation was described as 'conducive' in the greater Poso area, Central Sulawesi, after a suicide bombing at Poso Police station at 8:03 a.m. local time on Monday.

'Overall, the situation at the Poso regency remains safe. Local people are carrying out their daily activities as usual,' said Central Sulawesi Police spokesperson Adj.Sr.Comr. Soemarno in Palu on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The police sealed off areas surrounding the site of the bomb attack to prevent unauthorized people from entering the crime scene. The police are investigating the site of the attack in the Poso Police compound.

The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. local time on Monday after an alleged suicide bomber, reportedly male, entered the police station compound by a motorcycle and detonated the bomb.

The suicide bomber and his motorcycle were blown up in the incident. There were no other casualties.

Soemarno said the police were ramping up security in Poso regency by, among other things, conducting security checks at border areas.

Poso regency, which is located 222 kilometers from Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi, has been rocked by a string of violence and bomb attacks. (ebf)
