T

he Transportation Ministry is mulling stricter regulations in an aim to createa deterrent effect on pilotswho violate flight time regulations. The ministry is planning to fine, not justsuspend, the violators.

"We are now mulling the legal basis before moving forward,' chief of Sub-Directorate of Operations and Airworthiness Maintenance of the Transportation Ministry Captain Avirianto said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.

He acknowledged that many airliners were shocked about this plan as punishments were usually in the form of light sanctions.

He promised that the government would be fair and would not burden the pilots with excessive fines.

'I hope to implement the regulation this year. The fines will go straight to the state treasurer,' he said.(hrl/dic)
