illions of voters in Palembangand other regencies and municipalities in South Sumatra will cast their vote for who willlead the resource-rich province as governor from 2013 to 2018.

Polling stations opened at 7 a.m.

According to the South Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPUD), 5,820,453 people were registered voters in the province, which has a population of 8.6 million.

"In general, all preparations for today's election have been carried out very well and there is nothing to worry about," Ong Berlian of KPUD South Sumatra said as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday.

Amri, a resident of Alang-Alang Lebar subdistrict, said he was excited about the gubernatorial election.
"I have studied all they are offering and hope my favorite candidate can walk the talk and keep his campaign promises," he said.

There are four candidates ' Eddy Santana Putra and running mate Djuwita, Iskandar Hasan and running mate Hafisz Tohir, Herman Deru and running mate Maphilinda and incumbent Alex Noerdin and running mate Ishak Mekki. (hrl/dic)
