our people were killed and one seriously injured in a multi-car crash on Java's Northern Coastal highway in Bumi Mulyo village, Batangan district, Pati regency, Central Java, on Monday morning.
Pati police's traffic division head Adj.Comr.Ifan Hariat Taufik said four died on the spot in the pileup which involved two trailer trucks, one cargo van and one VW Combi.
Eyewitnesses said the accident was caused by a cargo van heading east into Rembang at a high speed. As the van tried to overtake a trailer truck, a VW Combi minibus was coming in the opposite direction.
The truck swerved the left, hitting another truck parked at the side of the road and plowing into a roadside stall.
Ifan said the driver of the VW Combi, two passengers and the van driver were killed in the collision. The driver of the truck parked at the road side suffered broken leg. (ebf)
