Lindaweni Fanetri put up an impressive fight before falling to second-seeded Saina Nehwal of India in a three-game encounter, 17-21, 29-27, 21-13.
After narrowly being beaten in the first game, the 24-year-old Indonesian, who enjoyed cheering from the majority of badminton enthusiasts inside the Istora Senayan, gave her all in the second game that saw her win 29-27.
She, however, faltered in the decider and exited the tournament after battling for more than one hour.
She conceded to her opponent's caliber but said she was determined to fight it out.
'All I could think of was that I would not give up easily,' she told reporters after the match.
She praised her opponent's consistency during the match. 'She maintained her tempo and power in all three games, while I felt that my feet were getting weaker in the third game, that I could no longer keep up with her pace.'
'I'm not satisfied with my play today, but I feel optimistic after putting up a good fight against a top player. It gives me motivation to train harder for my future matches,' she said, adding that she lost much to Nehwal in speed.
Other Indonesian players also failed to survive the foreign charge.
Maria Febe Kusumastuti and Aprilla Yuswandari were forced to abandon their bids at the hands of Japanese players.
Maria was defeated by Yui Hashimoto 21-19, 21-15, while Aprilla's resilience crumbled in her 58-minute match against Eriko Hirose, 21-8, 15-21, 21-13.
Spain's Carolina Marin breezed past another Indonesian, Adrianti Firdasari, 21-13, 21-8.
A good result was produced by Belaetrix Manuputi, who was involved in a three-game grueling match, in defeating sixth-seeded Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea 16-21, 21-16, 21-19
She will play Petya Nedelcheva in the next round, the Bulgarian grabbing her ticket with a 21-15, 21-10 win over Tsz Ka Chan of Hong Kong.
Hera Desi also advanced to the second round, but without breaking sweat as fifth-seeded Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand withdrew from the tournament due to injury. Hera will play South Korean Bae Yeon-ju, who beat Indonesia's Hana Ramadhini 21-18, 21-10.
In other matches, top seed Li Xuerui of China breezed past unseeded Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-12, 21-13. She will meet Japan's Kaori Imabeppu, who defeated Taiwan's Hsiao Ma Pai 21-12, 20-22, 21-14, in the second round.
