olitical parties in the ruling coalition said that they had no problem with a prospect of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) nominating party chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri as president and Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo as her running mate.
“We respect the decision, whoever the candidates nominated by other parties are, including if the PDI-P goes ahead with its Mega-Jokowi ticket,” Teguh Juwarno of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said.
Executive chairman of the ruling Democratic Party Syarief Hasan said it would be up to the voters to decide who would be the country’s next president.
Only three days after Taufiq’s death, unconfirmed reports said that Megawati is considering running for president in 2014, with Jokowi on her ticket.
Analysts have warned that if the plan goes ahead, it could significantly damage the PDI-P and kill off the bright future of Jokowi.
