orontalo Governor Rusli Habibie on Wednesday swore in Weni Liputo as acting Gorontalo mayor for a year at the most while awaiting a decision from the Constitutional Court regarding an election dispute.

The inauguration, held at the Gorontalo mayor’s office on Wednesday, was carried out after Gorontalo mayor Adhan Dhambea and vice mayor Feriyanto Mayulu ended their terms on Tuesday.

Weni Liputo was a civil servant at the Gorontalo provincial administration and earlier held the position of assistant to provincial secretary for public service affairs.

The inauguration of the interim mayor was based on Home Ministerial Decree No. 131.75-45/2013 on the instatement of the Gorontalo interim mayor.

The mayoral election dispute stemmed from the exclusion of incumbent Adhan Dhambea as a mayoral candidate by the local general elections commission a day before the election on April 2. The decision was made after the Manado State Administrative Court ruled that Adhan could not run for mayor because he did not have a valid elementary school certificate.

Rusli said that the acting mayor’s main duty was to manage the city and prepare for the installation of the elected mayor and vice mayor.
