AKARTA: Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama called on Pulogebang public housing complex residents in East Jakarta to be candid when asked about an alleged assault on a family there.
'I ensure you that no one will do anything [harmful],' he said on Sunday as quoted by beritajakarta.com. 'It will be difficult to conclude the case otherwise.'
Rinaldi and his wife were allegedly assaulted earlier last week by the complex's management for informing journalists that the management rent rooms illegally.
The incident had scared other occupants who were reticent to speak out about it. Rinaldi said the management threatened to evict them if they spoke to outsiders.
'That won't happen, there will be no evictions. Occupants have to speak about what happened,' Ahok said.
The East Jakarta Police is currently handling the case.
