opes for a podium honor crumbled after Indonesian Alexandra Asmasoebrata crashed out during her race in the 2013 Asian Formula Renault third series at Zhuhai International Circuit, China, on Sunday.
The only female driver in the 6th race of this year's championship, Andra, as she is more popularly known, suffered engine problems in lap 7.
The PS Pertamina racing team driver, who is competing in the international challenge category, started from the fifth grid and drove her way to third position in earlier laps before she swerved off the track.
The 2013 Asian Formula Renault also features an Asian and Masters category, besides the international challenge.
The international category had four racers, Asian had three racers and masters had two racers on the starting list.
Japan's Shigetomo Shimono of Buzz racing team took first position in the international category by clocking 1:39:52, followed by Julio Acosta of Champ Motorsport with 1:40:41 and Andra's teammate ,Pete Olson, with 1:41:94.
'She raced very well, she came on the inside to pass me and I tried to block her off but she was already inside so I drove off,' said Olson, who was right behind Andra before the accident.
Andra said she had tried all-out racing but that it was just not her day.
'It happened on lap 7, turn 1. I tried to block the racer behind me but unfortunately the turn was so slippery that I just went off the track,' she said.
Her manager and father Alex Asmasoebrata said that there were three factors that influenced a racer's success ' good driver, good car and good luck.
'Unfortunately, we do not have the third factor today,' he said.
In the fifth race on Saturday, Andra took third position in the international category behind winner Julio Acosta of Champ Motorsport, who recorded a time of 1:40:99 and teammate Pete Olsen at 1:43:69.
Sunday's Asian category was topped by Roy Chiu of the Q team, followed Ni Wei Liang of the Asia Racing team, who only finished 9 laps and Neric, also from PS Pertamina racing, who only finished five laps out of ten due to car problems.
Neric's car spewed out smoke on the fifth lap, which forced him to retire in the middle of the race.
In the third and fourth race in April, Andra finished fourth. The race will continue with the seventh and eighth series in September and round nine and 10 in November, also in Zuhai.
