The city police arrested two men for their alleged involvement in trafficking children from Kalimantan to Jakarta.
"They trafficked two victims, who are still underage," the head of the police's adolescent, children and women division, Adj. Sr. Comr. Hando Wibowo, said in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
The two suspects, who allegedly persuaded their victims to go to Jakarta by telling them they would be provided with well-paid jobs, were apprehended in Ciracas, East Jakarta, last week.
On arrival in Jakarta the suspects sold their underage victims to a married couple, who are yet to be apprehended.
The two suspects are charged with Article 81 and 82 of Law No.23/2002 on child protection with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if proven guilty. (hrl/ebf)
