he selection committee of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) members for the period of 2013-2018 submitted 21 candidate names to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on Tuesday.

Selection committee head Harkristuti Harkrisnowo said her team had completed the selection process.

'The President will choose 14 out of the 21 candidate names submitted,' she said in a statement as quoted by Antara news agency.

The candidates are Abdul Haris Semendawai, Christomus Adrian Gampamole, Edwin Partogi Pasaribu, Hasti Atmojo Suroyo, Johny Nelson Simanjuntak, Lestantya R.Baskoro, Lies Sulistiani, Mashudi, Rinto Tri Hasworo and Rooseno.

The others include Adhi Ayoe Yanthy, Afnan Malay, Askari Razak, Ignatius Hari Soeprapto, Kabul Supriyadhie, Kasmadi, Lili Pintauli, Mardiana S.Hartatie, Nur Syamsi Nurlan, Siti Soenjati and Teguh Soedarsono.

The 21 candidates include 10 advocates or non-governmental organization activists, one journalist, three retired Law and Human Rights Ministry officials, three police officers and one politician who is also an advocate.

According to the committee, the selection process was based on four aspects, which consisted of the candidates' understanding of law and human rights, leadership management, and current conditions of the LPSK's institutional strategies, as well as their track record.

It said an independent psychology consultant and a coalition of non-government organizations (NGOs) with concerns about the LPSK were involved during the selection process.

The LPSK members will work in five separate divisions that focus on protection; assistance, compensation and restitution; partnerships; institutional and development; and law dissemination and public relations. (hrl/ebf)
