group of teachers reported the municipal administration to the Depok Legislative Council on Wednesday for allegedly intimidating them while they were rallying for their promotions as permanent teaching staff.
The teachers met with the secretary of the legislative council’s Commission A on law and public administration, Yeti Wulandari.
Rosidah, who has been an honorary teacher at the Tugu state elementary school in the municipality for 25 years, said she and her fellow protesters were summoned by the school’s headmaster and given two options: To resign or to be dismissed for staging the protest.
She said she and her fellow teachers were shocked, intimidated and were just rallying to fight for a better future.
“Our position hasn’t changed and even worse, we were intimidated,” she said in her report to the councilor.
During the rally at the mayor’s office, the protesters demanded the municipal administration promote 320 non-permanent teaching staff in state elementary schools in the mayoralty. Former mayor Badrul Kamal approved their promotion in 2004 but it was not processed and was later cancelled by the incumbent mayor.
