inisters are set to replace President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) to officially announce the newly raised subsidized-fuel price rate.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Friday that he could be the one making the announcement.
"The announcement will be made shortly before midnight. We are currently arranging the place for it. The announcer will not be the President but a minister. It could be the coordinating minister for the economy [Hatta Rajasa] with me by his side, or I could be the one making the announcement with another minister by my side," Jero said.
Jero admitted that he did not want to announce the hike by himself because he did not want to be the only one taking the blame for the unpopular policy. He added that he believed all of the cabinet members were responsible as well.
If the hike is announced tonight, then by Saturday, subsidized fuel price will rise to Rp 6,500 per liter from Rp 4,500 per liter.
