niversity of Indonesia (UI) sociologist Tamrin Amal Tomagola said he would not be reporting Islam Defenders Front (FPI) spokesman Munarman to the police for throwing water at him during a morning television talk show.
'I will not be filing a report with the police. The incident certainly violated ethical behavior and, therefore, I will let people make their own assessments,' Thamrin told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
Commenting on this, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the police would only follow up if Thamrin filed a report.
'We will follow up on the report if Thamrin decides to file one,' he said.
The incident took place when both Tamrin and Munarman were guests on a Friday morning talk show, aired by a private television station. They were asked for their opinions regarding the police ban on the forcible closing down of nightclubs, which is often orchestrated by Islamic hard-line groups, during Ramadhan.
During the discussion, Munarman suddenly threw a glass of water at Tamrin while the latter was speaking.
According to kontan.co.id, Munarman said he did not regret his actions, insisting instead that he had done the right thing.(hrl/dic)
