Dems want Dada out of party immediately

span class="inline inline-left">Dada Rosada. Antara Figure in the Democratic Party leadership gave Bandung Mayor Dada Rosada his marching orders after he was named as suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in a bribery case.

'€œOur principles are clear. Those who are implicated in corruption have to resign from the party immediately,'€ chairperson of the Democratic Party political faction at the House of Representatives Nurhayati Ali Assegaf said over the weekend.

Senior Democratic Party politician Sutan Bhatoegana said that the party had made a mistake by allowing Dada in.

'€œHe is a government official who joined the Democratic Party after he had many problems in past, it is his personal problem,'€ Sutan told reporters on the sideline of the party national meeting on Saturday.

Dada has been accused of masterminding a bribe that was allegedly paid to a Bandung judge during an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of Rp 40 billion (US$4.4 million) for social aid package funds.

The judge, Setyabudi Tejocahyono, who served at the Bandung District Court, was earlier taken into custody by the KPK.

'€œYes, last night I signed it [a letter ordering the start of an investigation],'€ KPK chairman Abraham Samad told reporters on Saturday.

KPK deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto also confirmed the decision to name Dada as a suspect.

'€œWe have agreed to raise the status of the case by naming him as a suspect,'€ he told The Jakarta Post over the weekend.

The KPK investigators have questioned Dada eight times before naming him as a suspect.

Samad, meanwhile, said that the antigraft body planned to summon Dada to be questioned.

During its investigation, the KPK arrested the chairman of mass organization Gasibu Pajajaran, Toto Hutagalung, who is known as one of Dada'€™s closest confidants.

Besides Toto, the KPK also named two other accomplices, Asep Triana and Bandung Asset and Finance Management head Hery Nurhayati, as suspects in the case.

Dada was implicated in the case after Bandung secretary Edi Siswadi testified that he had been instructed by Dada to collect Rp 150 million in cash that would later be given to Setyabudi.

Toto earlier admitted that he had also received the order.

The bribe was allegedly intended for the judge so that he did not mention Dada and other Bandung administration staff members as being implicated in the social aid package funds'€™ case.

After allegedly accepting the bribe, Setyabudi, who previously served as Tanjung Pinang District Court head in the Riau Islands, gave lenient sentences to the seven Bandung officials implicated in the case, sentencing them to one year in prison for their roles.
