Sunda Strait Bridge to go ahead

C

oordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa says that the Sunda Strait Bridge project will go ahead as planned.

The bridge, which, it is estimated, will cost more than Rp 100 trillion (US$10.1 billion), is an important part of the Masterplan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Economic Development for the Sumatra corridor.

'€œThe government will start construction of the bridge soon so that everything will be fully integrated,'€ Hatta said as quoted by Kontan.co.id.

The project is currently on hold due to a difference of opinion between former finance minister Agus Martowardojo, who is now Bank Indonesia governor, and Hatta.

Agus wanted the government to have a role in financing the bridge to ensure good governance in the project, while Hatta wants the bridge fully financed by private parties.
