he Pekanbaru City Administration on Tuesday held Petang Megang (also known as Petang Balimau) on the banks of the Siak River to welcome Ramadhan fasting month. The beginning of the Petang Megang ceremony is marked by the splashing of orphans with lime water.
'We start by visiting the graves of religious leaders from Pekanbaru in Senapelan Cemetery,' said the administration's spokesperson Azharisman Rozie as quoted by tribunnews.com. Senapelan Mosque is also visited and a parade is held on the banks of the Siak River.
Other highlights of the event include a duck- chasing competition on the Siak River and a low-cost market, selling a plethora of basic commodities.
