he police have arrested a couple buying two girls from West Kalimantan who were victims of human trafficking.
'We arrested them a week ago and have detained them,' the head of the women's and children's protection unit at the city police headquarters, Adj. Sr. Comr. Hando Wibowo, announced on Thursday.
Hando said that the married couple would be charged with human trafficking and could face a maximum 15 years in prison in accordance with the 2002 Child Protection Law.
The police previously arrested two men for allegedly trafficking the two girls from their home village in West Kalimantan.
Hando declined to identify the couple and the two traffickers, but said the two girls were to be forced into prostitution.
