Degan Septoadji: Cooking all the way

C

elebrity chef Degan Septoadji has become another interesting figure after two seasons on the popular cooking competition, MasterChef Indonesia.

Degan, who considers cooking to be a relaxing activity, is known for his gentlemanly gestures. He encourages home cooks to cook from the heart, instead of just doing the routines.

Here, he shares his most favorite books.

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain

In comparison to many books I read about cooking Kitchen Confidential is one of the most interesting I'€™ve read. The writer, Bourdain, portrays the real world of kitchens extremely well.

Cookbooks by Thomas Keller

Thomas Keller is into molecular gastronomy. He is excellent at tricking people with flavor and appearance.

When he makes a dish, it looks like a regular dish but when we taste it, it is more colorful and delightful than first thought. I find this very interesting.

Books by Michel Richard

French-born chef Michel Richard has several inspiring books. He is a pastry chef that runs a few restaurants in the US.

What is so inspiring is that he applies pastry techniques to regular dishes.

When I first read his books I thought, '€œWow! Why have I never thought of that?'€ His books are eye-openers.
