he Law and Human Rights Ministry granted remission to 648 juvenile detainees in conjunction with National Children's Day on Tuesday.
'Out of the total number, seven teenagers are set to walk free after being granted remissions,' the spokesman for the ministry's corrections directorate general, Akbar Hadi, said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Akbar said that the ministry had recorded as many as 2,209 juvenile prisoners as of June.
He added that the remissions were based on Ministry Regulation No. 23 /2012 on remission, adding that the remissions were part of the ministry's effort to honor children's rights. (hrl)
