he Jakarta Police are questioning 15 members of a gangalleged to be extorting money from workers at the Korea-based PT Hankook TireIndonesia (HTI) factory in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.
'We nabbed the 15 men in front of HTI's factory at 2.15 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a report from the factory's supervisor at 12 p.m.,' Jakarta police crime sub-directorate chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan told reporters at his office on Friday.
He alleged that the gang members frequently demanded money from HTI employees to buy cigarettes and cellphone credit.
'On Thursday, workers who were wary of the gang refused to give them any money. As a result, the gang blocked the workers' access to the factory, and even threatened to lock them out,' he said.
He said a factory supervisor finally reported the case to his office after several of his workers complained to him about the gang's presence.
'Right now, we are investigating whether they've also extorted money from other workers at factories in the area,' he said.
