Chevrolet Spin: Easy and comfortable drive

The car is equipped with airbags for driver and 4-speakers CD/MP3 players, mobile phone provision with Bluetooth feature.

It'€™s Monday morning in Jakarta. Accompanied by cool and calm jazzy songs, we are ready to explore Bandung, West Java, in a 1.5L Spin, the latest release from General Motors'€™ Chevrolet.

Driving down the traffic-free southern part of the capital into the nearest toll road, the Spin offers  straightforward stability within its effortless and in-control automatic acceleration.

Unlike most  multi-purpose vehicles, this compact MPV by a legendary brand built on a sturdy and masculine, not-so-big body, has a  spacious cabin of seven seats.

The Spin is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, multi point fuel injection system, 142Nm/3800 rpm in torque, four valves per cylinder as well as 6000 rpm/109 ps in power output, among other engine features.

Chevrolet Spin'€™s design is based on global design by General Motors (GM) do Brasil. The units are engineered and produced by GM Brazil and GM Autoworld Indonesia.

On the outside, the Spin looks lavishly manly with a handsome black grille on the front, silver roof rails and a chrome-surrounded grille, among other features. The exterior was designed by GM Brazil'€™s exterior design director Matt Noone.

It is proportionally drawn with modern and expressive lines.  The firm lines on its body also maximize the aerodynamics of the vehicle, a secret behind the steady upbringing.

On the rather crowded toll road, the Spin confidently rides among buses and big trucks. It is easy and smooth to drive, allowing the driver to chat during the trip while enjoying the view.

Its McPherson suspension allows the car to continue rolling smoothly on bumpy '€” even holed '€” roads, as it also has 157mm in ground clearance.

Meanwhile, its hydraulic power-steering helps the driver maintain steady control  while maneuvering.

Amid unpredictable weather '€” sunny at one spot, but then windy and rainy in some other areas '€” the Spin rolls on as is.

Upon arriving in Bandung, Barli art gallery is the first place we visit. There, we are presented with a number of Barli Sasmitawinata paintings. Realist Barli was a member of '€œKelompok Lima Bandung'€, a group of top Indonesian painters, along with Affandi, Hendra Gunawan, Sudarso and Wahdi.

The trip continues to Unkl 347 and Brodo, inspiring furniture and accessories as well as men'€™s footwear producers.

The Spin'€™s modernity is also shown in its interior design.

Dagoerto Tribia, GM Brazil'€™s interior design director, designed the cabin area with a smart '€œtheater-style'€ seating arrangement in its second and third rows, comforting passengers in the back, providing an  all-around good view and enhanced roominess.

The Spin has 23 configurable seating positions and features 32 storage spaces, making it an interesting choice for families.

Its dual-cockpit feature with two-tone trim, gives the car a sophisticated look.

A sporty digital speedometer is easy on the eyes and is equipped with an analog tachometer and switches in silver and chrome accents. The instruments binnacle comes with a special font and ice-blue illumination.

One of the highlights of the Spin is that the car has reduction of NVH (noise, vibe and harshness) inside the cabin.

The feature is achieved via the  generous use of sound-deadening technology and material that impairs NVH from passing from one part of the vehicle to another. It isolates the interior from the engine, road and outside noise and vibrations, providing occupants with a quiet and refined interior.

The Spin'€™s 1.5L automatic transmission version is both great for the flat toll road and hilly Lembang track.

Meanwhile, its 1.3L diesel version with a  manual transmission, with turbo feature, gives full authority to drivers.
