oekarno-Hatta InternationalAirport management PT Angkasa Pura II has allocated Rp 100 billion to improve thefacilities at the airport, especially the runway.
Angkasa Pura II president director Tri Sunoko explained the company planned to inject concrete into the runway to strengthen it. When asked whether the improvements were to facilitate Garuda Indonesia plan to use Boeing 777-300ER for direct flights to London, which would be too heavy for the current state of the runway, Tri denied it, saying that the plan had been in the pipeline long before Garuda's plan.
'Please note that we scheduled repair works at Soekarno-Hatta long before Garuda announced its plan to do the direct flight to London,' said Tri on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He said, he would not close the runway during the project because it would disrupt the airport traffic. (hrl/dic)
