he Trade Ministry's foreign trade director general, Bachrul Chairi,has confirmed that the government had imported 8,990 head of cattle since Aug.11, 4,168 of which had been slaughtered.
'I hope the additional supply will help reduce beef prices here,' Bachrul said in a press release on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
According to the Meat Producers and Feedlot Association (Apfindo), to date 99,000 out of 109,000 cows had been slaughtered. The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) had supplied 951.97 tons of meat, less than half the allocation of 3,000 tons.
'The government has import agreements for 1,210 tons of frozen prime cuts with four import companies. The beef has already arrived in Indonesia,' he said.(apt/dic)
