KKMigas deputy chief Johannes Widjonarko hasbeen appointed to assume the leadership of the upstream oil and gas watchdogfollowing the arrest of Rudi Rubiandini on bribery allegations.

Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Susilo Siswoutomo said on Tuesday that according to regulations formed as a legal basis for SKKMigas, the deputy chief would assume leadership should the organization'€™s chairman be unable to carry out his tasks.

'€œHe [Widjonarko] will serve as the acting chief of SKKMigas for the time being,'€ he said in Jakarta.

Widjonarko could not be reached for comment as he was in Tokyo, Japan.

Widjonarko was selected as Rudi'€™s deputy in January this year not long after the establishment of SKKMigas, a temporary replacement of the now-defunct BPMigas, the erstwhile regulator dissolved by the Constitutional Court on Nov. 13, 2012.

Previously, Widjonarko was the deputy chairman of BPMigas. Rudi previously served as the deputy energy and mineral resources minister.

Rudi was arrested in his house on Jl. Brawijaya VIII in South Jakarta on Tuesday evening. His office at the SKKMigas' headquarters, also in South Jakarta, has been sealed by the KPK pending further investigation.

After being questioned intensively by KPK investigators for hours, Rudi was officially named a suspect on Wednesday afternoon.
