n NGO revealed that there have been 361 shootings that occurred in the lastthree years throughout the country, claiming 191 lives and injured 534 others.

The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) said on Thursdaythat most of the shooting cases remained unsolved, especially when involvingsecurity officers.

"Only a handful of perpetrators have been brought to justice. We receivedvery little information regarding shootings involving security officers fromboth the military and the police," Kontras coordinator Haris Azhar said ina press statement sent to The JakartaPost on Thursday.

According to Kontras, between 2011 and 2013, police officers were involved in278 shootings that killed 132 people and injured 428 others.  Theirmilitary colleagues were involved in 20 shootings that resulted to 5 fatalitiesand 35 injured victims.

He said usually the shootings took place during arrests, while tackling mass rallies and communal conflicts. (dic)
